Boris Can’t Be Trusted To Be Honest About Anything; Including The Fairness Of An NI Hike

08/09/2021

Boris Johnson is not just breaking an election manifesto promise, but increasing National Insurance (NI), he is ensuring that the cost of the extra funding is borne by only those who work for a living.

Those who derive their income from other sources; whether it is investment income, property rental income or (as is the the case for me personally) from insurance, do not pay NI and therefore do not face the prospect of sharing the burden of this tax rise.

I write this as I watch Prime Minister’s Questions; watching Johnson continue to lie, continue to ignore the actual questions posed to him and continue to trot out the garbage that he spews so frequently.

If a rise in NI had been pushed on to the country’s workers as a part of a structure of revenue raising, which also included tax revenues being obtained from the richest individuals and companies, perhaps there would not have been such an overwhelming surge of criticism against Johnson and his Party’s new tax rises.

The actual impact of the increase in NI will no doubt be felt the hardest by those on low incomes. Johnson‘s claims that the largest contributions will come from high income families completely ignores how such increases actually affect those who pay it.
