FBI Charge Thirteen Right Wing Extremists: The World Waits For Trump To Call Them 'Good People'!

08/10/2020

Six people have been been charged with plotting to kidnap the Michigan governor, Gretchen Whitmer, that involves links to a rightwing militia group, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced.

Michigan's Democratic governor, Gretchen Whitmer, was targeted by right wing militia group Wolverine Watchmen

A further seven were charged with terror offences. They are alleged to have been trying to identify the homes of law enforcement officers, planning to attack them, and making threats of violence intended to instigate a civil war.

They also planned and trained for an operation to attack the Michigan capitol building and to kidnap government officials, including the governor, Gretchen Whitmer.

It has been known for many years that he FBI consider the greatest risk of terrorism in the US comes from right wing extremists, including white supremacist groups.

The Michigan Militia appears to have had a history using the 'Wolverine' name, although it's not clear if the 'Wolverine Watchmen' is a longstanding unit within the group. The Irish Times ran an article in April 2019, with their reporter having attended a meeting of the Michigan Militia Wolverine unit, which was commanded by a single mother named Myra.

These people were clearly very dangerous and it is a great relief that the FBI were able to prevent them implementing their plans.

Given how President Chump has talked about extreme right groups, including white nationalists, when they have committed crimes or threatened the use of violence, it seems entirely likely that he would make some comment about these terrorists being patriots. It fits with his narrative, which has been to call anyone who doesn't support him lots of infantile names, and to speak in positive terms about anyone or any group that supports him; irregardless of the things they do wrong or the abhorrent views they share.
