Jacob Rees-Mogg: Unpleasant and Untrustworthy

12/12/2018

Jacob Rees-Mogg: the enemy of the people, the enemy of democracy

Theresa May has just survived a vote of no-confidence by her MPs.

Within a matter of seconds, the despicable Jacob Rees-Mogg was on our screens (if you were watching BBC News) saying that she'd suffered an incredible defeat and should take herself to the Queen and ask to dissolve parliament.

Honestly.

In writing this piece I am struggling to maintain my intention to refrain from using swear words in my posts. If ever there was a time for me to relax my standards, this was it. But, I won't.

Suffice it to say that I believe he should be resigning his position and seeking the forgiveness of his constituents and the British public for his behaviour.

I say this from my position as a past member of the Conservative Party, who had cancelled his membership as a result of Brexit and subsequently become a member of the Liberal Democrat Party.

The percentage that Theresa May defeated the attempted coup dwarfed the percentage 'won' by Vote Leave in the 2016 referendum; not 52% but 63%. And yet, the MP who has least in common with the electorate and absolutely no empathy with the potential impact of our exit from the EU is calling for her resignation.

Personally, if I had the influence to achieve it, I would be pushing for his deselection as a candidate in the next election. He clearly doesn't represent his constituents and has no interest in serving the best interests of the UK.

I have frequently criticised the attacks on Rees-Mogg for being a 'toff'.

To me, the fact that he was born into a privileged family and 'enjoyed' the benefits of wealth are unimportant. He had no influence over this. He cannot be 'blamed' for being born into riches. He isn't responsible for his upbringing.

However, he can justifiably be 'attacked' for his current views and behaviours.

If I ever get to meet Jacob Rees-Mogg, I will politely explain why I believe he is an unpleasant and untrustworthy man.
