Nurses Are On The Front Line In This Pandemic; So Here's A Message From One Of Them

06/03/2021

Facebook and Twitter are inundated with posts from people claiming that the COVID-19 pandemic is either overblown or, worse still, a sinister plot by the governments of the world.

I actually find it staggering that so many people, admittedly still a small minority of the total population, get taken in by the lies and ridiculous scaremongering spread by conspiracy theorists.

So, as a counterweight to the rubbish posted by some delinquents, I thought I'd share the words and a short video from someone who was on the front line, working hard, saving lives.

She said:

"It’s a year since the first person was tested for Covid-19 in Swindon. As you know I was redeployed on to a covid ward. I’m returning to the sleep clinic on Monday and hopefully so will most of my colleagues around the country. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding at this time. We could not have done it without you. It has been the most difficult time and I’ve seen things I never want to see again. But despite this the support I’ve received has been amazing. Here is an article that I did for our local paper for the anniversary and a video about the vaccine and the issue about misinformation.

The article can be read by following the link here or by clicking the image below.

The video, also featuring this brave nurse, can be viewed by following this link or, again, clicking on the image below.

Listening to the experiences of our frontline workers, especially those in the NHS, is definitely worthwhile in such troubled times. Aside from the fact that they have experienced the many horrors of dealing with the pandemic first hand and know what they are talking about, we actually owe them our deepest respect and gratitude for looking after us whilst we are ill.

Conversely, it is essential that we don't ignore it when people spread lies and ridiculous nonsense about the virus. Every time we scroll past without challenging the nonsense spouted by the conspiracy theorists and their disciples, we enable the misinformation to gain credibility.

It seems to me that the R number of the COVID-19 virus may well be coming down again, but the R number of the stupidity virus hasn't abated. The vaccine doesn't help fight stupidity, especially when the sheep who share the lies say they will refuse to accept it.

We must all take some responsibility in the fight against COVID-deniers.
