A couple of days ago, the first of the Presidential Debates took place.
I didn't watch it live, but watched some coverage and reporting about it in the hours that followed. I didn't want to watch it live; I honestly didn't think I'd cope with seeing President Trump spouting his lies at that point.
So, now I sit down to watch it.
It took just a few minutes for Trump to demonstrate that I was right to be concerned that he would be unable to behave in a professional manner, let alone a presidential one.
He aggressively talked over Biden when the moderator allotted Biden time; and he talked over the moderator, stealing extra time and showing complete disrespect to not just his opponent but to the man supposed to be chairing the debate.
I've taken part in debates. The debates I took part in were in front of boisterous all male audiences, fuelled by alcohol, and yet they were better managed and evidenced far greater respect than Trump could manage.
Forty (or so) minutes into the debate and I am struggling to cope with the headache that Trump is giving me.
Biden did call Trump a clown; immediately showing an apologetic stance and referring to him as Mr President. Biden also called Trump a liar; but given how many lies Trump told in such quick succession, this was completely justifiable.
I really hoped when I started writing this piece, that I could address the actual detail of the debate. However, the headache I have developed trying to listen so far makes this impossible.
I'm actually going to have to stop watching, due to the aforementioned headache.
Instead, I will (having switched off the coverage) going to see if I can find a transcript of the debate; it might be less stressful than trying to watch and analyse the actual footage.
One thing I can confirm at this stage, is that Trump really is a serial liar, a narcissist and completely unfit to be sitting in the White House.
