We Will Remember Them

11/11/2018

Today marks 100 years since the end of WWI, the Great War.

The loss of life during the four years was staggering; estimates range from 15 to 19 million deaths, including between 9 and 11 million military personnel. In addition, there were about 23 million wounded military personnel. Sadly, these numbers were then dwarfed by the numbers lost in WWII.

It is so important to remember the fallen and to learn the lessons from these catastrophic wars.

So, in half an hour, when the time reaches 11:00 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month, I will stand and pay silent tribute to all those who lost their lives in these wars, and in the wars that have followed.

I will be wearing my Royal British Legion Poppy.

However, I am appalled that there are still so many 'fake' poppies being sold; whether this is through groups on Facebook or through online marketplaces like Amazon and eBay.

The official RBL poppies can be purchased from official street vendors and shops, as well as from the RBL online shop: www.poppyshop.org or from www.poppyscotland.org.uk (for the Scottish four leaf poppy).

Please make sure you only buy and wear official poppies.
