Westminster MPs Treated Staff Like Servants

16/10/2018

Bullying in the workplace is something that has been around not just for decades, but for centuries.

However, for this to still be such an issue in the House of Commons is absolutely disgraceful.

The gradual growth in employee protections (at least on the surface) within large and medium companies seems to have completely bypassed parliament. So, the body of people responsible for looking after the interests of all UK citizens carries on with the abuse; belligerently ignoring the welfare of the minions who were supporting the day to day business of UK politics.

It is time for change.

It is time for those who are guilty of such abuse are named and shamed. But don't stop there.

Let's actually look at how bullying is really being dealt with in industry as a whole. I have definitely worked for companies who very proudly claim to have dealt with bullying and intimidation, whilst there were actually senior employees still actually using these negative behaviours as management tools.

Yes, let's hold our politicians to account for the way that they deal with civil servants and other staff. Let's also test this in other areas of employment.

This isn't something that has to cost money, or at least not a lot of money. However, it could make a substantial difference to the mental health and overall wellbeing of the UK's workforce.
